Tim and Sophia Bergqvist (father and daughter) run the family owned Quinta de la Rosa which produces small amounts of top quality port, table wine (Douro Tinto) and olive oil. Since relaunching La Rosa in 1988 they have established it as a leading “Single Quinta” in the market place.
1996 is an outstanding vintage for La Rosa. The experience gained over the previous decade, coupled with favourable harvesting conditions, have resulted in a robust 1996 Vintage Port of particular complexity.
The grapes for the 1996 Quinta de la Rosa Vintage Port came mainly from the dry stone terraced Vinha Velha, where the vines are between 40 and 80 years old. As always at La Rosa the port was made using classical methods such as hand picking and treading in granite lagares. Vintage Port is matured in large oak casks (tonels) before bottling.
